Isabelle Huppert is a French actress who has appeared in more than 110 feature films and numerous stage productions around the world. In 1977 she won the British Academy Award for Most Promising Newcomer to Leading Film Roles for her work in Claude Goretta's "La Dentellière" (The Lacemaker). She garnered the Prix d'interprétation féminine (Best Actress Award) at the Cannes Film festival twice, for her roles in Claude Chabrol's "Violette Nozière" (1978) and Michael Haneke's "The Piano Teacher" (2001), based on the 1983 novel by the 2004 Nobel laureate Elfriede Jelinek and two Volpi Cups at the other major film festival, the Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica della Biennale di Venezia (International Exhibition of Cinematographic Art of the Venice Biennale) for Chabrol's "Une affaire de femmes" (Story of women) in 1988 and his "La Cérémonie" in 1995. With 16 César Award nominations, France's highest film honor, she won twice for best actress (for "La Cérémonie" and Paul Verhoeven's 2016 movie "Elle." For that film she also won a Golden Globe Award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and was nominated both for an Oscar and a European Film Award.
