The Siniy most ("Blue Bridge") across the Moika river in St. Petersburg is the widest in the city, and perhaps the widest bridge in the world. In 1805 William Heste designed a single-span cast iron bridge resting on stone suports, and it was built in 1818, but in the 1840s George Adam more than doubled its width to 97.3 meters, the same width as Isaac's Square onto which it opens.
