On thy tombstone
What do I write
On thy tombstone
You have no beginning
Or an end
No storm can
Blow you away
No thunder
Can scare you
You create yourself
For pinching hearts
Heads in turmoil
But you remain
Calm like ocean
Bottom
You are like a river
Which runs merrily
To meet the rising
Sea waves
You are present
In the full moon
And the rising sun
Most of all
You are in hearts
And minds of
People
You praise
with
Passionate love
Can you have
A tombstone
With nothing
Written on it
About who are
In all our breath
And in the color
And fragrance
Of Rajnigandha
On summer's
Night...
Tell me, my love!
What should
I write
On your tombstone !!
For DAIZY POETESS
The rajanigandha ("fragrant at night") is a tuberose, which is a plant native to Mexico, where it is called the "vara de San José" (St. Joseph's staff). In the Philippines, the "azucena" is used in floral arrangements for various occasions, especially funerals.
ReplyDeleteWhat should I write on your tombstone? The question that begs no answer because the month is short of words, and the heart, in pause. Love between two kind hearts is immeasurable. And even words can't explain the effect of true love.

I get the sense that the writer sees this love as transcending time and space...as if they have lived and loved many times over eternity. Maybe as two sides of a coin or a Yin and Yang that balance each other or make a whole out of two separate souls. "You have no beginning or end", to me this says "We Are", much like the god of the Biblical Old Testament saying "I AM". In a sense, this one line relates to me an assertion that this is not the first time the lover has asked the question, and it will not be the last.
ReplyDeleteI loved the smoothness of the delivery and the picture of a love that is eternal. :)
