REFLECTIONS
On our
living room wall hangs
A 16th c. painting of two mice
Before a watermelon whose
Pink heart has been eaten away
Below, by our bedroom door, lies
A pumpkin whose orange guts
Have been chewed out by a rat
Who resides in one of my wife’s
Drawers with a couple of children,
A cache of dates, walnuts, and
Even a packet of Chinese herbs
We have never seen before
