David Norris writes

Honey

I said, “When I
Dip my honey dipper

“Into your honey pot
And start to stir,

“It’s sweet, so sweet
Honey, sweet as clover.”

I said, “And I taste
The sweetness in my mouth.”

The drops drip down from
My chin as I rub

My wet face on your flat stomach
And smell the morning in the fields.

The sunlight glows behind my eyelids.

  1. In this sweetly cinematic poem, notice how David adjusts the lens at the end from the bed to the wider world, giving the act of love its cosmic significance while also trivializing the particular moment by showing it is not the center of the universe.
