Leftover Coffee

Leftover coffee
swims for its own life
bobbing up and down,
driver-side cup holder.
Dancing lightning
fire flashes across the sky.
Post-work tired eyes
follow divided lines,
and saddle-hop home.

DON’T BECOME A DISH BUT BE WATER

Don’t become a dish but be water inside the dish.

--Bruce Lee

***

A handful of water…
If you spill it it becomes a plant,

Then the lovers’ breast fills with a lawn.

Unless you sip,

The ground fills with grass,

At that time will you want

To become a handful of water?!

***

A look can position the sky,

A howl can hold the universe.

A heart as big as the sky --

Tell me, what more do you need?!

(But don’t tell me the universe…)

FROGGIE BOTTOMS

2008
Seoul

Mrs
Magpie

steps in
--pokes

“a polliwog!
Yum!”

Polliwog
wiggles up

sucks
and grows

around
your eyes

Soft
Sambos

paddle
along shore

serenely
waving tails

so many
polliwogs

paddle
clock-wise

“Our huge family”

Cupped in palm
one plays dead

Set on surface,
Jiggles down

See--
Miss Polly
dines on

a cherry
blossom

Polliwogs
nibble petals

of beautiful
Yellow Flags

Cute --
they would

chew me, too
if they could

Pond shrunk
Into a puddle

--surviving
polliwogs pray
