After-hours

of thoughts
and feelings,
as the glow
of the television
blinks on and off
in the background,
and the super-model
taunts her
with the values
of the latest
wrinkle cream

Preying on each
breath, her palatable
grief prepares to pounce
on her existence

"How soon
should women
start thinking
about prevention?"
asks the lady with the
bleached-white teeth.
