Anne Tibbitts writes

When Tom learned to type

October 1990

He had built homes boats walls but he was forty six years old the day

He learned to type

A whole new world opened up to

A man who had Thot he'd seen it all

Home row keys soon became

Second nature to this renegade

Who'd spent most of his life

Avoiding things conventional

But what could require more discipline and commitment and desire to learn than teaching your

Fingers to find the p's and the q's?

Hearing Tom type

Made Everything Right

With the World

  1. One thing we can say about Anne -- we never know what her new poem will be like. This is a fine thumbnail portrait of Tom, that sketches the most vital aspects of his being. Is there really anything else we need to know about him than Anne has told us?
