Try a "tequila por mi amante," but you'll need to plan about 6 weeks in advance (remember, however, this is a special drink for Your Lover!)
You'll need a 750ml bottle of good reposado tequila (100% agave only) and 3 pints of strawberries that are red all the way through, with no white flesh (although frozen strawberries are an acceptable substitute); they should be washed, hulled, and sliced in half (or quarters if they're really huge). Put them in a clean, sealable 2- liter jar and then fill the rest of the jar with the tequila. Seal the jar and gently rotate it clockwise and then counterclockwise, trying not to break the berries. Put the jar in the refrigerator for two weeks (three is even better), and rotate it clockwise-counterclockwise every day or so. After this lengthy steeping period, pour the tequila through a fine-mesh strainer lined with several layers of cheesecloth (after you've washed and wrung them!), wrap the berries in the cheesecloth, and squeeze it until all the liquid is extracted. At this point, throw the berries in the garbage. Let the tequila settle if you wish, but in any event you need to siphon off the clear liquid from the sediment or strain it through the cheesecloth a few more times until it's clear. Thoroughly wash the jar and put the ruby-red tequila back in. Then put it back into the refrigerator for at least 3 weeks. When you are ready to imbibe, serve it in 3-ounce portions, over the rocks or shaken and strained into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a fresh strawberry and a slice of lime. You may also wish to squeeze a little lime juice into it.
Obviously this requires a lot of work and patience, much like maintaining a successful relationship. And, if the love affair goes sour during the interim, at least the resultant concoction will be a delicious consolation prize.
