SchiZ (Lee-Ann Azzopardi) writes

Dear Reese, Dear Julianna,

We are sorry
Sorry for not protecting you
On the night on the Danforth
As the bullet goes through yr body
The tears bleed from a billion eyes
And the blood flowed on the innocence
Of a city that was of true angels
That struggled with the violence
Seeping through over the U.S. border
Once more we apologize
But now, you are free in the constellation
Of planets
With the endless journey to real peace

Sincerely,

SchiZ

  1. On 22 July 2018 a gunman with a semiautomatic pistol wounded 15 people on Danforth Avenue in the Greektown section of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, before killing himself. Two of the victims, 10-year-old Julianna Kozis and 180year-old Reese Fallon, died. The pistol had been obtained from the US via a gang-related source and had been stolen during a Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, burglary in 2015. Greektown, also known as The Danforth, is a commercial-residential neighborhood that boasts one of the highest concentrations of restaurants per km in the world. It was named for the American contractor Asa Danforth Jr., who started building Danforth's Road in 1799 to connect Scarborough to the Trent river. That road was completed in 1801, but soon fell into disrepair and was largely replaced by the 1817 Kingston Road stagecoach route. Danforth Ave. was created by the Don and Danforth Plank Road Company in 1851 to connect Toronto to Danforth Rd. "The Danforth" always refers to Danforth Ave., never to Danforth Rd., though the 2 intersect.
