Who am I?
Rudy Ray Moore co-wrote the 1975 film "Dolemite" and its soundtrack. In his early years he preached and danced in nightclubs before joining the army. Between 1955-1962 he recorded several rhythm & blues records as well as comedy albums "Below the Belt" (1959), "The Beatnik Scene" (1962), and "A Comedian Is Born" (1964). In 1970, while working at the Dolphin's of Hollywood record store he started adapting stories told by a regular customer and adopted the persona of Dolemite as an alter ego in his act. The character was featured on the album "Eat Out More Often" (1970), and his profanity-filled rhymes earned Moore the sobriquet "Godfather of Rap." In the film Dolemite was a pimp and nightclub owner who sought revenge against a rival who had him sent to prison. Moore featured Dolemite in other albums ("This Pussy Belongs To Me" and "The Dirty Dozens") and in 2 movie sequels "The Human Tornado" (1976) and "The Return of Dolemite" (2002); Moore also appeared in "Shaolin Dolemite" (1999), a quasi-sequel which consisted largely of unused and redubbed footage from Robert Tai's 1986 Taiwanese kung fu film "Ren zhe da" ("Ninja: The Final Duel"). Moore was Monk Ru-Dee, and the film also featured characters such as a topless Ninja Ho. He also appeared as Dolemite on an episode of the TV sitcom "Martin" and on Snoop Dogg's 1999 album "No Limit Top Dogg" and Busta Rhymes' "When Disaster Strikes..." (1997) and "Genesis" (2001) and in the 2000 film "Big Money Hustlas." In 12019 Eddie Murphy starred in "Dolemite Is My Name," a Netflex movie about Moore.
