Heather Jephcott writes

Telling Myself

I must put one foot in front of the other
I must keep going
I must not spend too long stopped, wondering
just where to put my next step
or
else
I might fall
down,
and not be able to get up again
by myself
but
have to call
and wait around
until
someone comes to help.

I must put one foot in front of the other,
continuing to keep on going
forwards
not backwards.

I must spend enough time in organisation
to know where each step should be
but
not so much
that I forget to look up
and see the beauty surrounding
and the person
at the end of the track.
