The Sea on Friday
At the sea the children splash in the water
and dead
fish scatter the beach beside
puffins,
mackerel and giant turtles
and there are
predators in the water
sea snakes,
sting rays, sharks, barracudas
and I’m
afraid of the water
and the
feral dogs on the track
through half-dead date palms
and old
bones
Yhe poem begins with an innocent enough image but proceeds quickly to a series of horrors.
