Peter Wodarz writes

All the Things That Go Away

I saw a ship sail away today.
A ferry. It was making the morning
run from Naha to Motobu.
It was a cool, cloudy day, and
the ship, in the distance, disappeared
after a minute. It was gone.
What had been wasn't there anymore.
I nearly cried.
An overwhelming sadness filled me
for all the things that go away.

  1. Have you ever been unreasonably moved by some trivial event in your life, a passing reference to some insignificant thing, an unexpected but unimportant occurrence? This poem captures that experience.
