  1. The Pha That Luang was built in 1566 after king Setthathirath of Lan Xang transferred his capital from Luang Prabang to Viangchan (Vientiane). Its official name is Pha Chedi Lokajulamani (“World Precious Sacred Stupa”). It represents Siddhartha Gautama during his last illness, as he neared his parinirvana (the death of the body o someone who has already attained nirvana during his lifetime. He died at 80, possibly at Kushinara (modern Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh), the capital of the Indian republic Malla.
