Duane Vorhees writes

In the Valley
      --after Yun Dongju

Two mountain ranges race downward
while rapids grow hoarse from cheering.
In dead summer cloudmounted sun
gallops across the valley.

On mountainback the young rocks
thrust their heads forth like horns from a calf,
and the soft oxen hair
on mountainback grows deep green.

Returning home after three years
the footsteps of the vagabond
trudge over hardened ground
like a naked crane......

Wornout shoes hang by their necks
from the tip of his walking stick,
a lone magpie flies with her barefoot fledgelings,
and the valley is as silent as the vagabond's mind.
