  1. Hagia Sophia is the theological idea that perfect wisdom is to be found in God alone. In the mystical theology of the Orthodox Church, wisdom is understood as the Divine Logos who became incarnate as Jesus Christ. In the Holy Family, Sophia (wisdom) is represented by the Theotokos ("God-bearer" or "Birth-giver to God"), the mother of Jesus the Son and Word of God. Sophia is expressed as the Holy Wisdom of God and the saints, obtained through humility, the virtue to be sought more than any other. It is humility that cultivates the Holy Wisdom (Hagia Sophis) and is the defining quality that grants salvation and entrance into Heaven. According to Sergius Bulgakov, the Sophia is co-existent with the Holy Trinity, operating as the feminine aspect of God in concert with the 3 masculine principles (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit). Vladimir Lossky, however, rejected Bulgakov's Sophiology, claiming instead that Wisdom as an energy of God (like love, faith, and grace) an not to be ascribed to God's true essence, which is incomprehensible.
