Reena Prasad writes

Glass

I grew up indifferent
to her great love of glass

Like a leech finding a plump leg,
she latched onto bowls, shakers
- glasses of every odd shape
I am hooked now
Plain
Glass is beautiful
Glass breaks
Glass is cool
Glass cuts
Shattered
it stays beautiful
divided up or multiplied by thought

Stained glass is
even more so
A hymn and a choir
A prayer too
Somewhere on the way
she sent me off with duct tape
and I returned
with shards of her transparent gene
I can no longer bear being opaque
