Paulette Spescha-Montibert writes

My mother

through a wall
fifty years wide
in Seoul of all places
the voice of my mother
came to me
a voice
calm, soft,
firm though,
not distant at all
Kneeling busy
next to the mahogany chest
I was neither scared
nor surprised
I smiled
when mother said
"a drawer should be opened
with two hands

always with two hands"
