HOW TO GET RICH
He sent me one
of the worst poems
I have ever read.
I didn’t respond. I
didn’t want to hurt
his feelings.
The next time I saw
him he asked me if
I had read it.
I did, I said.
It was written by
Coldplay, he said.
Well that makes
sense, I said.
Coldplay -- Joshua Morton
Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland formed the rock band Pectoralz at University College London in 1996; when Guy Berryman joined in 1997 they renamed themselves Starfish. Martin asked Keane keyboardist Tim Rice-Oxley to join, but he declined; when Will Champion joined in 1998 they became Coldplay. The release of their single "Yellow" in 2000 brought them international fame. Since then their albums have been both critical and popular successes. They have sold over 80 million records; their third album "X&Y" (2005) was the best-selling album in the world that year, and their fifth, "Mylo Xyloto" (2011) was the UK's top seller. Out of 209 nominations, they have won 62 awards, including 9 Brit Awards, 7 Grammys, and 5 MTV Video Music Awards. In 2009 the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) named their "Viva la Vida" Song of the Year. Martin has dubbed the ban's music "limestone rock" in comparison to "hard rock." "The New York Times" music critic Jon Pareles called them "the most insufferable band of the decade."
ReplyDeleteLook at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow.
I came along,
I wrote a song for you,
And all the things you do,
And it was called "Yellow".
So then I took my turn,
Oh what a thing to have done,
And it was all yellow.
Your skin,
Oh yeah your skin and bones,
Turn into something beautiful,
Do you know,
You know I love you so,
You know I love you so.
I swam across,
I jumped to cross for you,
Oh what a thing to do.
'Cause you were all yellow,
I drew a line,
I drew a line for you,
Oh what a thing to do,
And it was all yellow.
Your skin,
Oh yeah your skin and bones,
Turn into something beautiful,
Do you know,
For you I'd bleed myself dry,
For you I'd bleed myself dry.
It's true,
Look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine for,
Look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine.
Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And all the things that you do.
