Two boys crouch in a small boat.
barge poles and oars set aside.
No rain, but umbrellas out

  1. Yang Wanli was a 12th-century Chinese poet, one of the "four masters" of Southern Song Dynasty poetry. He composed his work during the final Song period in Lin'an (Hangzhou). In 1125, the seminomadic Jurchen from northeast Asia invaded China, in 1127 captured the capital at Bianliang (modern Kaifeng), and in 1129 forced the Song to establish their rule in the south. Lin'an was the terminus of the Grand Canal, the world's longest artificial river, which linked China's two chief rivers, the Yangtze and the Huang He (Yellow). The city was proabably the world's largest at the time. Anren is a rural area in Hunan, near Chenzhou.
