George Reece composes and performs

Pedestal

Verse 1:
Everybody wants to feel like they’ve got stuff to say,
With prejudice and superego getting in the way.
I’m the best I can be, at least for today.

Verse 2:
You’re looking for an idol on an ever smaller screen,
And I’m the best at being idle that you’ve ever seen.
So you’re assuming perfection in the space between.

Bridge 1:
I’d like to think you could,
But you can’t treat me like you do.
You shouldn’t always think I’m right,
When I’m wrong as much as you.
I’ll tell you why.

Chorus:
Cause I’m a complicated person too,
With lots of imperfections just like you,
So don’t put me on your pedestal.
I try my best to be a better me,
But there’s much more to life than you can see,
So don’t put me on your pedestal.

Verse 3:
You’re telling me I saved your life but it’s not mine to save,
And even if I made your day, well that’s a gift you gave.
I’m not the model of righteousness you seem to crave.

Bridge 2:
I’d like to be a king,
But I’m not worthy of a crown.
If you imagine me to be,
Then I’m gonna let you down.
I’ll tell you why.

Chorus:
Cause I’m a complicated person too,
With lots of imperfections just like you,
So don’t put me on your pedestal.
I try my best to be a better me,
But there’s much more to life than you can see,
So don’t put me on your pedestal.

Break:
Any moment I’ll be gone, in a second.

Bridge 1:
I’d like to think you could,
But you can’t treat me like you do.
You shouldn’t always think I’m right,
When I’m wrong as much as you.
I’ll tell you why.

Chorus:
Cause I’m a complicated person too,
With lots of imperfections just like you,
So don’t put me on your pedestal.
I try my best to be a better me,
But there’s much more to life than you can see,
So don’t put me on your pedestal.

Yes I’m a complicated person too,
With lots of imperfections just like you,
So don’t put me on your pedestal.
I try my best to be a better me,
But there’s much more to life than you can see,
So don’t put me on your pedestal.
So don’t put me on your pedestal.
Please don’t put me on your pedestal.
