Shambie Mpho writes

IN CASE I DON'T RETURN

Don't keep awake
Wipe your tears away
Just know iam gone
In case i don't return...
Please don't feel sad
hold not to the past
You have your lives to live
Life must go on
Cherish the moments we had
remember the laughter
The good times
Be glad you once knew me
In case i don't return...

Say if you need me
If ever you want me
Just look up the sky
And look at nothing in particular
Make a wish
I will hear you
In case i don't return...

Don't be afraid
When the bell tolls
And don't be afraid
When dust swallows me
Thank God you once knew me
For there won't be any me again...

Don't you know
I can feel you?
Can't you hear
My sense of touch?
I move with the wind
I float with the clouds
don't look far
I am here with you
It's only flesh and bones
Buried in the ground
For from dust i came
And to dust i return
The scums of the earth...

Please don't feel sad
don't keep awake
Wipe your tears away
Just know iam gone
Be glad you once knew me
In case i don't return...

  1. Various dictatorial regimes in recent decades have taken to secretly arresting, or usually murdering, those whom the state regards as enemies or potential enemies. Collectively, these people are the "disappeared."
One section of Shambie's poem strongly reminds me of Tom Joad's oath from the closing part of Nunnally Johnson's movie version of John Steinbeck's novel, THE GRAPES OF WRATH:
I'll be all around in the dark. I'll be everywhere. Wherever you can look, wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad. I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready, and when the people are eatin' the stuff they raise and livin' in the houses they build, I'll be there, too.

  3. The world is full of Englishes. Some of them even have their own pop buzzphrases like Singlish, Japlish, Konglish, Jamlish, Hindlish. Along with this plethora of dialects come many ways of looking at the cosmos (aside from the individual vision of the artist). I hope this site can welcome creators from all over the globe, who can not only share their insights into the human condition but also inform us about their cultures, myths, histories....
