Heather Jephcott writes

Please Do Not Swear

Please do not swear
in a poem, a song
in a story.
No matter how truthful
you think you are being
it strikes me
straight through
to my heart.
Perhaps I am
soft,
gentle and kind,
but that is ok
don't you think?

In context or out
swearing brings swords into play
to pierce with their
harshness, sharpness,
inflicting wounds
to the tender of heart
in an attempt
to form callouses
hitting once, twice
or pummeled

These words that are vomited
or shot from a pen
are unnecessary
with a purpose to damage
those tender in heart
and give incentive
to people
to harden their hearts
and to lose
the essence of beauty, of love
vulnerability,
caring.

So, please
do not swear....
