A Cozy King Sized Paradise

A Marlboro Red kissed my lips like an ex lover.
It’s been about three year hiatus from this old friend.

I paced around an empty house and filled the room with smoke.
At least the smoke and the flame felt warmer than my heart.

There is a soul crushing beauty in self destruction that I crave.

But Is this enough though?

My addictions add color and moments of euphoria but I’m still alone.

Women consume my mind yet they always seem so distant.

I long for their company and I try to play their little games,
but in the end I only seem to be chasing insanity.

Although they are the vice that I can’t ever turn away.

  1. In 1855 Philip Morris & Co. marketed Marlborough cigarettes as a "ladies' favorite." In 1924 the company relaunched it as Marlboro and its advertising emphasized how ladylike filter cigarettes were. The filter had a printed red band around it to hide lipstick stains, calling it "Beauty Tips to Keep the Paper from Your Lips." In the 1950s filtered cigarettes were thought to be safer than unfiltered ones, but men were hesitant to switch because they did not want to be seen cigarettes associated with women. Since Marlboro held less than a 1% market share, Philip Morris changed the product's appearance and advertising. Frank Gianninoto designed an iconic red and white package, and Leo Barnett (the creator of such brand mascots as the Jolly Green Giant, Tony The Tiger, Charlie the Tuna, the Pillsbury Doughboy, and the Keebler Elves, and slogans like United Airlines' "Fly the Friendly skies" and Allstate Insurance's "Good Hands") took charge of the ad campaign. The plan was to feature a lineup of manly figures that included sea captains, weightlifters, war correspondents, and construction workers, but the series began with a cowboy. Marlboro quickly became the 4th-largest-selling brand, and only the cowboy (the Marlboro Man) was used from then on. In 1972 the firm begn sponsoring motor racing teams, followed by motorcycle racers.
