Winter Ballad
No rain is promised for today.
The skies are bright and blue
Brightened by light left over from days
When summertime was new.
A cold wind blows out of the north
Its chilling breath has seared
The tired leaves on the sleeping trees
And left the branches bared
To winter winds. The winter ice
Will come and wrap the trees
Against the winds that carry cold
As freight upon their breeze.
No rain is promised for today.
The skies are bright and blue
Brightened by light left over from days
When summertime was new.
A cold wind blows out of the north
Its chilling breath has seared
The tired leaves on the sleeping trees
And left the branches bared
To winter winds. The winter ice
Will come and wrap the trees
Against the winds that carry cold
As freight upon their breeze.
