AT MY DESK

I am sitting at my desk
I sit here to write
But nothing comes to mind
It is hard to sit here
And nothing comes to mind
No matter how long I sit here
Nothing comes to mind
I guess I can't write anymore
Oh wait a minute I have written
Something
Haven't I!!

Joseph Smith Translating the Gold Plates -- Del Parson

  1. When Joseph Smith, Jr., was 25 years old he published "The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi," which he claimed was an English translation of the "reformed Egyptian" he found on the golden plates which the angel Moroni, their guardian, had directed him to find. The angel was the reincarnation of the prophet-warrior Moroni, the last person to write in them before burying them before his death at the climactic battle at Cumorah between the Lamanites and Nephites in the 4th century. Moroni was the son of Mormon, who had compiled, edited, abridged, and provided most of the narration; the prophet Ammaron had hidden the Nephite records in the Hill Shim in the Land of Antum (Cumorah hill near Manchester, New York) before instructing the 10-year-old Mormon to wait until he was 24 to edit and abridge them. The "Book of Mormon" reported that Lehi of the Jewish tribe of Manasseh had left Jerusalem before the city was taken by the Babylonians in 586 BCE. Eventually Lehi's son Nephi was given divine instructions to build a ship which took the exiles to North America, where Nephi and his brother Laman founded two warring nations. During the translating process Smith sometimes separated himself from his scribe with a blanket between them; after the plates were translated Smith returned them to Moroni.
