Arlene Corwin writes

Not Fascinated By Death

Each day I waken to particulars:
Listenings on radio, viewings on TV;
Programs dominated by catastrophe.
Totality:
Invisibility & disappearance,
Dispersals free of substance
                          physical or otherwise.
Spirit, soul or spook? Who knows?
One risks a view.
It offers succor.
I’m not fascinated by departure, but
If it’s a journey
And so many
Leave this planet
Solo, on one’s own,
Or periodically, in hordes & multitudes…
From earthquakes, plagues, volcanoes spewed
I can’t exclude it from my musings.

Comics have a fling with themes.
Church bells ring out joyous rings;
To what one hopes is shibboleth:
This concept death.
Singers sing;
Poets like myself cling
To the unavoidable
Compelled by feelings
                       Unalloyed, and all
To do with truth.
Not fascinated, yes, but drawn
