J. S. Aanand writes

EXTENDED ODE TO LIFE

Dust covers the crowning glory of the flowers
And the years have settled like dust
In my hair which has turned grey
I find the dust of time on my limbs
My glistening flesh and boiling blood
Are no more visible to the winds
All that was youthful has lost its shine
And cannot be discovered
I wanted to dodge time
And put up a mask
One-day this dust too will go
And I shall be placed back into the womb for a remake.
My engine number and year of manufacture
Will be changed and I shall come back
Into the living bazaar.
Grey hair and faltering flesh
Only hide a sharp living boiling heart
Which even grave can't still.

History of Snow Hill -- Oliver Budd [after Kenneth Budd]

  1. The original mosaic commemorating the history of Snow Hill station in Birmingham, England, was installed in 1969 after three years of work by Kenneth Budd and his associates. At 300 ft in length and varying heights to a maximum of 20 ft at the center, it dominated St. Chad’s Queensway. The locomotives were 2:3 scale and the carriages, 1:1. It was made in gold leaf and glass mosaic made by Orsoni in Venice and set around with a light and dark stone aggregate. The station was closed in 1972, and a rebuilt one opened in 1987. The mural was destroyed in 2007, when the area was redeveloped. However, the muralist’s son reincarnated the mural in miniature in 2013 in a faithful facsimile of the original design. It is installed in Colmore Circus, near the top of Colmore Row, the city’s most prestigious business address.
