The Kaleung people (also called the Laoeng) are an ethnic group of Thailand and Laos. However, they may be descended from Bru people who shifted to a Southwestern Tai language resembling Phuthai and Yoy, since the Vietnamese call the Bru "Ka Leung." The Bru ("people living in the woods") of Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, who once belonged to the Khmer kingdom of Angkor, centered in southeastern Laos, which dominated large parts of Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand between the 9th and 13th centuries.
