Don Beukes writes

Into the Blue

A golden crust of fossil dust
crushes beneath me
softened by infinite time unknown
sand blown wind caressing me
gently guiding me
ever closer
hypnotically into the blue -

All senses adapting
evolving
for a select few
deeper into a weightless float
surrendering into a weightless float
observed by prehistoric life forms abound
their curiosity and life force astound
a sudden intrusion amplifies confusion
liquid womb violently contracting
the predator no illusion
my presence exposed -

It catapults me out
of the blue
a lonely gull mocks
my shame
from above
as I'm gently aborted
away from the blue
