Kevin Patrick Hodgkiss writes

Eiwob

The last drop of time.
The end of this sky.
A world in a tailspin
Spiraling by
The speed of light
The speed of sound
A centrifuge pulling around
Around around.
We got disconnected
I’m sorry to say
It seems we waited too long
And we lost your way.

Barreling ahead.
Onto the next realm
Submission control
A force greater at the helm
Flash through
Flash dash
Vessel to
Bone ash.
Dust.

Diamonds in the dust
Man, you should’ve seen it.

The limits of space
Be defied
By time
And all that’s left behind.
Bottomless
Dimensionless
Gravities melt down
And expire.

Let the diamonds fall
Into stars
Sparkling dust
And the dancers dance
On that perpetual beat
Of mixed fascination.

Fashion nation,
Let’s dance.

I started this poem on the day he passed and I've been playing with it ever since. It was much longer and I wasn't happy. I cleaned it up after I listened to......Ziggy Stardust....... I love that album.

  1. David Robert Jones (“David Bowie”) was an English singer, songwriter, and actor, acclaimed for his innovative work over some 5 decades of reinvention and visual presentation. During his lifetime, his record sales, estimated at 140 million albums worldwide, made him one of the world's best-selling music artists, releasing 11 #1 albums in the UK. In 1962 at 15 he formed his 1st band, the Konrads, and then joined the King Bees, the Mannish Boys, the Lower Third, the Buzz, and the Riot Squad, but none of their singles were commercially successful. Changing his stage name, he released his 1st solo single in 1967. Failing as a musician, he studied dance, avant-garde theater, mime, and commedia dell’arte under Lindsay Kemp at the London Dance Centre. His 1st success was “Space Oddity” in 1969, though it did not top the charts until its re-release in 1975. Then, melding the stage persona of Iggy Pop with the music of Lou Reed, he adopted the 1st of his mythical alter egos, Ziggy Stardust and formed the Spiders from Mars in 1972. His stage antics grew more bizarre, stripping down to a sumo wrestling loincloth or simulating oral sex with Mick Ronson's guitar. In 1973 he was the best-selling act in the UK and had 6 albums concurrently on the charts. In 1975 a new persona, the Thin White Duke, emerged. During the 1970s and 1980s he worked in a number of musical genres before forming a new band, Tin Machine, in 1989, before resuming a solo career 3 years later. On his 69th birthday “Blackstar” was released, 2 days before his death, and the day after his demise online viewing of his music skyrocketed, breaking the record for Vevo's most viewed artist in a single day. Within a week 19 of his albums were in the UK Top 100 Albums Chart, and 13 singles were in the UK Top 100 Singles Chart. At the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in 2017 Bowie was nominated for Best Rock Performance, Best Alternative Music Album, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, Best Recording Package, and Best Rock Song – and won them all.
