James Diaz writes

The Body You Rode In On

I see myself breaking,
I've that power you know
where my eyes knit in the middle
of some fierce memory
and all over the house
objects are missing

listen,
how my heart beats
inside you

a million little anecdotes
for the end of our bliss
borrow me - bend in,
I know the floor
it's my home
away from home

I can't keep both eyes
open anymore
it's daylight till it's not
and then lord knows
how long we'll have to fight
the numb/inside

peel us till we pop
I haven't the right angle of you
yet / this window open
and all creatures here
are blessed
as we found them
light / skin and mercury / we are something beautiful

surrender
our halos
for this crown
of thorns.

Le Poeme de l'Angle Droit (The Poem of the Right Angle -- Charles-Edouard Le Corbusier

1 comment:

  1. Between 1947 and 1953, the architect Le Corbusier made a suite of 19 lithographs and illustrated calligraphic poems that he intended as the most complete statement of his worldview. The lithographs and texts of Le poème de l'angle droit are arranged in seven "zones" lettered A-G, and are assigned a thematic title and a color: A is Environment (green); B is Mind; C is Flesh (brown); D is Fusion (red); E is Character (white); F is Offering (yellow); and G is Instrument (purple). These titles, and their color codings, were in part inspired by his study of alchemy, and each chapter contained a subset of poetical meditations on themes related to alchemical theories of tensions between elements, colors, and genders, and the relationship between spiritual evolution and architecture. A.3 (the accompanying picture) read:

The universe of our eyes rests
upon a plain edged with horizon
    Facing the sky
let us consider the inconceivable space
    hitherto uncomprehended.
    Repose supine sleep
    - death
With our backs on the ground...
    But I am standing straight!
    since you are erect
you are also fit for action.
    Erect on the terrestrial plain
    of things knowable you
    sign a pact of solidarity
with nature: this is the right angle
    Vertical facing the sea
there you are on your feet.
