A children's counting rhyme includes the line "five, six, pick up sticks." This has given birth to the name of a game of physical and mental skill. A bundle of stick (made from ivory, bone, wood, bamboo, straw, reed, rush, yarrow, or plastic) are tossed onto a flat surface. Each player, in turn, must remove a stick from the pile without disturbing the remaining ones.
