J.J. Campbell writes

tomorrow was simply a rumor

met a woman that reminded me
of the pam grier fever dreams
i had as a child

we danced the night away over
glasses of bourbon and a lonely
man playing the saxophone

she kissed me like tomorrow
was simply a rumor

my hands embraced every curve
like this was the last meal of
some old fuck stuck on death row

we had one of those fucks in the
parking lot that only teenagers
ever get to dream about

this was over a decade ago now

she's married to some lucky soul
out west

and i'm wondering when luck
will ever strike again

  1. Pam Grier made a name for herself in a series of low-budget Jack Hill produced blaxploitation films made by American International Pictures in the 1970s. She was promoted as the "baddest one-chick hit-squad that ever hit town!" in "Coffy" (1973). Quentin Tarantino revived her career in 1997 by casting her as "Jackie Brown," his adaptation of Elmore Leonard's 1992 novel "Rum Punch," and she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her role.
