Vernon Mooers writes

"Art is not usually a bad thing- artists usually
destroy themselves before they destroy others.
Poets, artists, musicians, dancers, actors aren't
so prone to violence- they're usually  pretty
harmless. The Twentieth Century has been the
most violent of all centuries, and the Twenty-
first has continued that pattern. So I'm a firm
believer in art- whether it's graffiti or theatre
concerts. Violinists don't usually go around like
cowboys or bikers bashing people's heads in for
the sheer joy of it. We all need to see less blood
spilled in the streets- less animalistic behavior.
I mean, you don't want to see poets packing
heat- it would be outright dangerous.  Art, we
can safely presume, is usually tame, and logically,
it follows,  should be encouraged and supported."
