Heather Jephcott writes

Success

A photo is shown of three young men
two of them still teenagers.
It is now ten years on
and one,
just one is seen as successful
by the one carrying the photo.

"Successful," he says,
"an expensive car, a house
a wife, and children on the way."

"Successful," he says,
"an excellent position," while
those of a similar age still flounder.

"Successful," perhaps
because time was used productively,
profitably and the fruits can already be seen.

"Successful," perhaps
too because he married a women
with a mother who knew the right people.

Who are we to measure success?
So much goes into making us who we are and what we do.
Rarely do we have no one else to thank for our success....perhaps never. But still, unless we try and keep on trying, moving ahead, we will never succeed.
