It is intended to be illusive, cryptic, and seemingly random --- much like a a Kandinskian work... though I believe the poem certainly has literary, sensual, and inventive potential for those interested in unpacking its double meanings, and bravado allusions, which uniquely exercise creativity." Wassily Kandinsky was strongly attracted to "Gesamtkunstwerk" (an idea of synthesis of arts in one work). He wrote, "Abstract art places a new world, which on the surface has nothing to do with 'reality,' next to the 'real' world. Deeper down, it is subject to the common laws of the 'cosmic world.' And so a 'new world of art' is juxtaposed to the 'world of nature.' This 'world of art' is just as real, just as concrete. For this reason I prefer to call so-called 'abstract art' 'concrete art.'" Edith Sitwell wrote what she called "abstract poetry," which possessed qualities that were more aural than literary, rendering them essentially meaningless: "They are patterns of sound.... enquiries into the effect on rhythm, and on speed, of the use of rhymes, assonances and dissonances, placed outwardly and inwardly (at different places in the line) and in most elaborate patterns." An example from 1922 is "Lullaby For Jumbo":

Jumbo asleep!
Grey leaves thick-furred
As his ears keep
Conversations blurred.
Thicker than hide
Is the trumpeting water;
Don Pasquito's bride
And his youngest daughter
Watch the leaves
Elephantine grey:
What is it grieves
In the torrid day?
Is t the animal
World that snores
Harsh and inimical
In sleepy pores? -
And why should the spined flowers
Red as a soldier
Make Don Pasquito
Seem still moulder?

Sightly earlier, Hugo Ball wrote "verses without words," as in these two examples:

Karawane

jolifanto bambla o falli bambla
großiga m’pfa habla horem
egiga goramen
higo bloiko russula huju
hollaka hollala
anlogo bung
blago bung blago bung
bosso fataka
ü üü ü
schampa wulla wussa olobo
hej tatta gorem
eschige zunbada
wulubu ssubudu uluwu ssubudu
–umf
kusa gauma
ba–umf

Gadji beri bimba

gadji beri bimba glandridi laula lonni cadori
gadjama gramma berida bimbala glandri galassassa laulitalomini
gadji beri bin blassa glassala laula lonni cadorsu sassala bim
gadjama tuffm i zimzalla binban gligla wowolimai bin beri ban
o katalominai rhinozerossola hopsamen laulitalomini hoooo
gadjama rhinozerossola hopsamen
bluku terullala blaulala loooo

zimzim urullala zimzim urullala zimzim zanzibar zimzalla zam
elifantolim brussala bulomen brussala bulomen tromtata
velo da bang band affalo purzamai affalo purzamai lengado tor
gadjama bimbalo glandridi glassala zingtata pimpalo ögrögöööö
viola laxato viola zimbrabim viola uli paluji malooo

tuffm im zimbrabim negramai bumbalo negramai bumbalo tuffm i zim
gadjama bimbala oo beri gadjama gaga di gadjama affalo pinx
gaga di bumbalo bumbalo gadjamen
gaga di bling blong
gaga blung
DuanesPoeTreehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17053093400086634552noreply@blogger.com
