Just 5 years later, on 9 February 2009 the site enable its "like" button as one of its social plug-ins, in which the button can be placed on 3rd-party websites. Its use centers around a kind of advertising network in which it gathers information about which users visit which websites. Once clicked by a user, the "liked" content appears in the News Feeds of that user's friends, and the button also displays the number of other users who have liked the content, including a list of those users.
